The garden design industry is split on the issue of using CAD software to produce plans. One group holds the view that “only a hand drawn and coloured drawing truly allows the designer to demonstrate his or her creative individuality.” An opposing group counter-claims that if other forms of applied design, such as graphic or product design, have embraced CAD and its inherent productivity gains without sacrificing creativity, why do garden designers seem to insist on a head in the sand mentality towards this evolving technology?

Many of our diploma students return to us for CAD training when their businesses have begun to expand; typically within the first year of their practice as professional garden designers.

We teach CAD using industry-standard software VectorWorks. Developed and upgraded since 1985 by Nemetschek Inc, VectorWorks is their flagship product and is one of the world’s best selling CAD products – available in over 85 countries and translated in 14 languages.

The course content of each of our CAD training programmes is bespoke. By way of summary, we teach CAD using VectorWorks on 4 levels, from beginner to advanced; each level is taught over one day on a one to one basis. We provide a laptop and VectorWorks software to use during the course together with detailed hand-out notes. The courses are run in Bristol or London and the cost is £575 for each 1 day course. We find that one day is usually sufficient for most people’s requirements.
